I really wanted to enjoy this holiday, but I did have a bittersweet feeling about it. Prior to departing we had asked our travel company if we could upgrade the room and were told reception would be accommodating and would look to do this. Upon arrival however we were told to wait until morning and speak to reception. We weren't shown to our room, instead waved off in a general direction only to be put in room 174 (Right at the end) - we then discovered that our garden/terrace view room was actually a view of the snack bar. Upon returning to reception to explain this isn't what we expected we were told to return at 11am and it would be reviewed. we did. We were then told to return at 2pm which we did, only to be asked to sit for 45 minutes before the receptionist returned and told us there is absolutely no spare rooms, after telling us at 11am they would likely have them. At this point we accepted we would have to accept the room and make the most of it. However, our final day we discovered ants in our bathroom and reported this to reception. There was no apology or query, we were waved away and told that someone would be in to clean them out for us. We returned later that morning to a strong chemical smell and no sign of them. However, the following day when we checked out I discovered them again. I felt it was unnecessary to argue further on this, as they would be doing a full room clean prior to the next person who would be unfortunate to land this room. However, imagine my shock when reviewing other comments on this hotel and noticing that someone else has also mentioned this problem with the exact same room. Pool - We didn't use the quieter pool out back, but the sun loungers are not the most comfortable at the main pool and some are starting to break and fail, so just watch. The island looks nice, but the water has caused the ground to go very wet and damp and you have to watch your feet depending on where you are. I'd also suggest watching where you are around the pool, as the bushes seem to be full of ants, flies and wasps. Food - the snack bar was absolutely brilliant and the drinks selection with cocktails, soft drinks and beer were good, there are self serve drinks at the snack bars and it isn't too busy. The main bar opens for the PM and this again moves very quickly, however if you do wish to have a paid cocktail you will need to have cash, they do not accept card. The main restaurant is a buffet with a differing menu every night. I can safely say we did not have a bad meal any night, or a poor breakfast. I only ate in it for lunch one day and was let down as it felt like it was very much the previous evenings leftovers. Entertainment wise, Babou was fantastic and even if you didn't wish to get involved he would still have a good chat with you, they do bingo, Water polo, Water aerobics and darts, with snorkelling being down in the pool and evening entertainment, the evening entertainment is very much what you expect in an all inclusive but they do try their best and that helps with it. On site also there is access to a shop which opens from 9am until 1030 with souvenirs, snacks, drinks, alcohol and cigarettes which was very much appreciated for when you wanted to return to your room at the end of the night, as well as booking services for trips around the island and a car hire. Reception can also arrange taxis for you. Location wise, the area is fantastic, there are plenty of bars and restaurants elsewhere if you want a break (I recommend Dream Cream and El Greco) from the all inclusive. Transfers to and from the airport are quick, we were about 20 minutes both sides of the journey. WIFI is available throughout the hotel, including at reception and poolside, there is late checkout shower facilities and luggage storage also. I would love to give a higher rating, but our arrival and discovery of ants in our room left us very disappointed. If you are offered room 174 I strongly advise you push for a change. Beyond that it is a lovely hotel with plenty to do.
