Official Description

This hotel is located just a few kilometres from the centre of Avor, 4 km from countless shopping and entertainment venues and within 200 m of links to the public transport network. It is 4 km to the nearest sandy beach. This golfing hotel with a vast garden, offers various facilities including a café, a bar and conference facilities. The well-equipped rooms come with a bathroom with a bath, a minibar/ fridge and individually regulated air conditioning. In the outdoor complex is a swimming pool as well as a sun terrace. It is possible to play tennis, try out archery, go biking, play billiards or pay a visit to the in-house gym. The hotel features a golf course. Guests may select from the continental breakfast buffet while lunch and dinner may also be taken à la carte or chosen from a menu.

Still coming back to earth from eating at Le Grill in Penina. The staff excelled for my wife’s birthday to the extent that , I think, I kissed one of the waitresses on the way out. You made it a very special evening for my wife and that means a lot. First class, old school service that utterly excels. You should be very proud! Whisper it, but this the Grill is good and the service is par excellence. Mr. David.

I’m not sure how this hotel has managed to be accredited as a 5 star hotel? It may well have been of a 5 star standard a few decades ago! The hotel is very tired and run down. It’s in desperate need of redevelopment. Towels on internal stairs to soak up the rain leaking through closed windows, paint flaking on balconies, tired furniture, the activities around the walking /jogging track poorly maintained, generally looking run down. We decided to eat in the Grill restaurant. The food and service were good. During the meal there was a diner who was on his phone having conversations with another person with his phone on loud speaker, playing music & watching clips. All on loud! In any restaurant this kind of behaviour from a fellow diner would be classed as rude and inconsiderate. We asked a member of the waiting staff if they would kindly ask the gentleman to refrain from using his phone in the restaurant in this way. We were told that the staff member could not tell him to stop as he was the owner of the hotel! From the response this kind of complaint from a guest wasn’t unusual and had obviously happened before. We wouldn’t recommend this hotel or return there.

Comfy beds. Has a fridge, although ours alarmed one night ? Why. Nice coffee tea machine,but no milk. Food average,and service slow in grill restaurant. Buffet breakfast nice,but have to find waiters to bring tea,sometimes difficult,and no teaspoons. Asked us if we wanted water,and stated " we dont do tap water".. Staff a bit stuffy, and not very happy , apart from Romeu in the small bar who was efficient, cheerful, and couldn't do enough to help us. Golf course great layout,and greens perfect even in very wet weather. Golf shop staff great.

A nice hotel golf resort stay. We stayed for 3 nights and 3 rounds of golf, the course is well cared for and has some nice holes to it. The hotel is nice but the rooms don’t have a whole lot storage for suitcase, golf shoes, or travel bag. Breakfast was lovely and was a nice addition to the stay.

Unfortunately, the "marisco" served as part of the first course during the gala dinner at 8 PM left us with severe food poisoning that completely ruined the holiday. My wife began vomiting by 11 AM on December 31, while I endured stomach discomfort starting at 1 AM and began vomiting at 6 AM on January 1. Both of us spent the entire New Year’s Day bedridden—my wife primarily with diarrhea but recovering within 24 hours, while I faced prolonged vomiting and diarrhea, taking longer to recover due to delayed evacuation of the contaminated food. These symptoms, including acute vomiting, diarrhea, and prolonged gastrointestinal distress, are classic signs of bacterial food intoxication, likely due to improperly handled or contaminated seafood. This is absolutely unacceptable, particularly at a 5-star hotel. Adding to our frustration, we heard similar stories from other guests and noted the strong smell of vomit and diarrhea in the toilets. Despite these evident signs, the reception staff dismissed our complaints, claiming we were the only ones affected. To add insult to injury, we were still charged the full bill. Food safety and hygiene are non-negotiable in hospitality, especially in an establishment of this caliber. The hotel’s failure to uphold basic standards has left us deeply disappointed, and we cannot recommend Penina after such a distressing experience.
