Plub Pla Koh Mak Retreat

Do not stay at this hotel. Had a 3 night stay booked, went to a different hotel after 1 night. So many issues at this hotel: 1. Patio doors wouldn’t close completely so lots of insects and mosquitoes in the room. 2 Rooms are so basic, no TV, uncomfortable bed, rooms and bathroom in need of a total update. 3. Staff finish at 8.00pm. After that time your on your own, no one to speak to if you have any issues. 4. Staff need basic training in customer service, language barrier doesn’t help. 5. Swimming pool was filthy and wouldn’t dare go in there, looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for months if not years, told staff about this as no one was going in there pool, but unfortunately nothing was done as no cleaner available. 6. Very short staffed. 7. Beach was pointless as no sand to sit on as water comes right to shore. 8. Took 4 weeks to get a refund for the 2 days I didn’t stay there. Please listen to the negative reviews, I wish I did, costly mistake. I would not recommend this hotel, there are plenty more hotels on koh mak to choose from.

We stayed 4 nights at PlupPla Mak Retreat and loved it! As the name suggests, it is a retreat. Yes, it's away from the main tourist parts of Koh Mak, but that is the beauty of it. It has a very calm atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and do everything in their power to help you and make your stay plessant. We felt spoiled and welcome. The chef of the Restaurant is very skilled and makes a variety of delicious Thai meals as well as several European dishes. The rooms are very maintained and clean. The surroundings are beautiful. Pool area is beautiful and sun beds are provided. We had no sandflies, unlike other beaches on the island. PlubPla has kayaks for the guests to use free of charge. Motorbikes, which are also fairly new and well maintained can be rented at a fair price to get around and explore the island. This was really fun :0). We had some of the best massage we have had in Thailand. As commented by other guests, there are some stones on the beach, but they are not sharp and you can just walk past them and take a dip in the clear water. No problem. We would be happy to visit this retreat again.

We arrived for a 3 day stay. They had arranged to pick us up from the ferry but did not turn up. They did pay for the taxi that took us there. Every thing looked fantastic. Very clean. We was showed the room. It looked fantastic. Just like the pictures. Then we noticed was not a tv. They said was a fire once because of a tv. So removed them all. Then noticed no kettel to make drinks. You could only get drinks in main building between 7-20.30h. After unpacking my wife, went for a shower. In both showers (inside and outside showers) were no warm water. This was our final small thing we did not like for a 4* hotel. We checked out and moved on..
