I don’t tend to write negative reviews as I’m not fussed about having the most luxurious hotel, but it has to be made aware to others that this hotel should be avoided at all costs, and the pictures on the website are far from the truth and a complete misrepresentation of the place. I had read reviews and done my research on the hotel before booking and all in all it looked satisfactory based off of the “4 Star” rating, however: The staff are unattentive and tend to sit behind the front desk on their phones. The entire hotel, mainly the corridors and hotel rooms smell strongly of cigarettes; ironically there are signs that say ‘No Smoking’ in the building. They didn’t even have a doormat to the exit of the building by the pool, instead they used an old, dirty beach towel for people to wipe their shoes on. The sofas in the lobby area were dirty and had paw prints and hairs on them. Our hotel room looked decent at first sight, however with closer inspection, parts of the wallpaper were peeling off and the floors and surfaces were incredibly dirty. When I went in the bathroom, the cleaner had failed to remove the previous guests old and used shower gel bottle and a dirty razor from the shower! The sink had clearly not been cleaned as there was dried toothpaste spat on the tap. Even worse, there were stains on both our bedsheet and our towels, which quite frankly looked like human waste. There was no bin in our room to put any rubbish, only a tiny one in the bathroom. We didn’t see a single cleaner whilst we were there, which makes me wonder if there were even any at all, and if staff just made beds and not cleaned anything else. The breakfast selection was very poor, and all the food was cold even though we came down early to eat. What was shocking, was that the entire restaurant and bar area (separate to the breakfast area) was practically dilapidated and abandoned; we were hoping to get a drink at the bar and came downstairs to see that all the furniture and bar area was covered in a thick layer of dust, chairs stacked on tables and stagnant rainwater left in a bowl on the counter. There were old wires and rubble strung across the floor with rusty stains. Although we came in early April, and we are well aware that it’s only the start of the Summer season, there was no notice whatsoever on the hotel website or On The Beach (who we booked with) that the hotel could be in this state or under repair; the other hotels that were being refurbished in the area were closed to visitors and blocked off by fencing, and rightly so; Point Beach is not fit to allow access to guests at this moment in time. But the last straw for us was the lock on our room door being broken. On the first night we came back to our room after dinner to find that the key wasn’t working, and we couldn’t get into the room. We went to reception to find a man behind the desk with his earphones in and on a video call with a mate. He just gave us a spare key which also didn’t work; we were going back and forth with different keys he kept giving us that all didn’t work. Once we finally got into our room after half an hour, we checked to see if the door was working okay to find that it then wouldn’t lock properly, which meant that anyone could come in; we told the staff and he just said that someone would fix it in the morning. My boyfriend asked to change rooms, and the guy still said no and that he would come back in the morning and so we had to sleep with an unlocked door the whole night. The next morning around 9am, we woke up to hear someone fiddling at our door – my boyfriend opened it to see a staff member trying to fix it, but he didn’t have the courtesy to knock and let us know; when he opened the door the guy just said, “no I’m fixing it” and slammed the door shut in our face. In the end, they ended up reusing an old lock and door handle and screwed it on, leaving a crack in the door with chipped wood falling off. All of this happened in the space of not even 24 hours. We wanted to speak to a manager but when we got to the desk either no one would be there, or they would just be walking around on the phone. After that first night, we packed our bags and had to pay to stay at another hotel with much better standards on our own accord, as On The Beach refused to transfer hotels or give us a refund. In conclusion, the hotel is a complete misrepresentation on all websites and a complete scam and is not worth a penny to stay there. It is incredibly unhygienic, staff are unprofessional and it is unfit to be running as a business. We came here as a couple, and I feel extremely sorry for anyone who has been here with children. Please avoid this place at all costs !!!!
