We have recently been to the Agaya Bodrum hotel. It's been almost 30 years since we were in Bodrum, but we definitely won't be waiting that long to return! What can we say about this hotel (which was probably not even built when we last went), the location is just great - what fabulous views of Bodrum and the castle, beautiful in the day time, but you can have your dinner watching the daylight fade and the lights appear including highlighting the castle. The staff are exceptional - they really can't do enough for you, from checking in to checking out, bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaning staff, they all had smiles on their faces and were willing to help. Special mention to Sadik who was our fabulous bar man round the pool, and who kept us topped up with Aperol Spritz's and beer. I'd definitely say that it's worth paying extra for a pool view/balcony room as the hotel is built in a hill side and some of the rooms were directly onto the corridor. The pool loungers were lovely and comfy, and we never had a rush to get one, they were available all day. We didn't use the loungers on the beach/board walk area but there always seemed to be plenty down there too at any time of the day and the hotel appeared to be quite full. We loved having lunch/snacks in the beach bar (otherwise we might have put even more weight on) and there was a great selection there available most of the afternoon. The food is truly lovely. I'm a bit of a picky eater, as I don't eat red meat but there was always plenty of choices of chicken/turkey and fish and they also catered for special dietary requirements on request. We never managed to go to the midnight buffet - probably as well, otherwise we wouldn't have got our seatbelt fastened. The a la carte restaurant is worth a visit and is included once for a week's visit, the food and service were lovely - we went for my husband's birthday and it included birthday cake (on top of dessert!). Drinks - bottled beer, cans of named fizzy drinks rather than pumped fizz, branded spirits - and 24 hours a day if you wanted it. There were also icecreams - both branded icecream lolly's and also a selection of icecream for cones etc and pastries available too. One suggestion to the hotel would be to have ice lolly's as well as those with icecream as one friend we made on the trip was lactose intolerant and she couldn't have any. The water taxi comes up to the hotel and takes approximately 10 minutes to get directly into the marina in Bodrum near the castle. It runs regularly from early on to late in the evening and costs a couple of hundred lira each way (approx £3.50 I think). Well worth it for a shopping trip into Bodrum. The hotel also calls taxis which appeared to be reasonably priced for guests going into Gumbet. If you are not good with steps, request a room that is not on the second floor as the lifts don’t go to that floor. Otherwise, the lifts are good as there are a lot of steps. There is also a lift from the beach area if required and a great little lift/chair into the pool if you need it which is a nice touch. We were there for Ataturk Day which was a lovely celebration where everyone could join in with the festivities, and we would definitely go again that week. The only other suggestion I have is to have a hand rail on the steps getting into the pool as they were quite deep steps and several of us mentioned that we were afraid of slipping - we had to hold onto the edge of the pool to get in, and a metal bar down the middle of the steps would be helpful. Otherwise, everything about this hotel was beautiful, and we are looking forward to a return visit, together with some of the amazing people we met whilst we were there. It is adults only which appeals to us, and approximately an hour transfer from the airport (with several other drop offs before us). We can't recommend it enough, thank you for an amazing holiday.
