This was my 5th holiday in the Maldives and the best so far. This resort/island is superbly balanced and i felt it combined all the good things that the previous 4 islands had. The island: - it’s a rather big island but it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s covered with lush and luxuriant vegetation, feeling like a tropical jungle. Walking along the shaded paths around the island was a real pleasure. We mostly used the buggy service for longer distances. It was a quite reliable service and we rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes for a buggy to pick us up. There are also bicycles available for rent (or included in some packages). - the beaches are wonderful, exactly as expected for a maldivian island. Altough we had several windy and wavy days, the staff cleaned the beaches every day, keeping them nice and clean. - it has a very big lagoon all around with shallow and crystal clear water The reef/snorkeling: - the house reef is absolutely superb, if you are able to reach it! If you just try to snorkel around from the beach or water villas you might be dissapointed, as there is not much to see. The reef is located on the sunset side of the island but to reach it you have to walk/swim all the way out to the edge of the lagoon. That is almost 500 meters away from the shore. There are 3 ways to reach it: at low tide you can easely walk to the edge (be careful not to step on sting rays or coral). At high tide you can swim, but only if the sea is calm, otherwise you should be a very strong swimmer and in very good shape as the waves will be pushing you back to shore. The third way is by (very expensive) boat snorkeling trips. Pro tip: use the best sunscreed possible or SPF clothing, as the sun is extremely intense and you will get sun burns. The villas: - probably the best villas in the Maldives in this price range! We stayed 3 days on the overwater pool villa and 5 days in the beach pool villa. We were not able to decide wich one we liked more, as they both have advantages and small downsides. Both villas are huge, inside and outside and very nice decorated, cleand and confortable. - We loved the huge outdoor space of the overwater villa with the wonderful shaded veranda, confortable sunbeds and umbrella and the large pool. The outdoor bathroom was also huge and tastefuly decorated and confortable. The only downside that we could find was that entering the sea was a bit difficult, as you have to use a pool style ladder so we mostly used the pool. But this is basicly standard for water villas in the Maldives and on the other hand, the view and vibe of living overwater were superb. - The beach villa had an almost identical layout inside and outside as the watervilla, but it was placed inside the lush jungle, just steps away from the beach. We loved having the fine white sand and the turquoise water just outside our own private jungle paradise villa. On the downside there were some mosquitoes, gekos and other insects around and some sand inside the room (from our feet), but nothing realy unpleasant, these just added to the feeling of living in a tropical paradise. - All the villas are fully equiped with everything one might need. We especialy apreciated the Nespresso machines with plenty of coffee capsules replenished daily. Dining: - there are only 3 restaurants on the island: the main buffet restaurant and 2 a la carte restaurants (reservation requiered). All 3 restaurants are inluded in the AI package. - Melange (main buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner) was a realy pleasant surprise for us, maybe the best main buffet restaurant that i’ve ever visited in a resort. Breakfast was good, with good variety, eggs and pancakes stations and various other food options, including indian and asian. The lunch and dinner were really excellent. There were indian, japanese, italian (live pasta and pizza cooking), chinese (live soups and noodles cooking) and international sections. All the food was freshly cooked in small quantities and it was very tasteful and of good quality. There was never any cold or dry food in any section of the buffet. On top of that, all the hard working cooks and staff were super friendly and available to suit your demands with a smile on their face. Really lovely people! - Souk Oven - a la carte, mediterranian - we went there for dinner 2 times. It was decent, with some dishes being good and some others being average. Overall we were not impressed with this one. - Phat Cameleon - a la carte, international fine dining (?) - this was presented to us as the vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant, wich didn’t sound very appealing, as we are meat lovers. We found it to be an exceptionaly good international resturant with a fine dining feel . The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was also very pleasant. I’ve had one of the best fillet mignon steaks ever and i have to mention the mushroom soup also. Do not miss this restaurant! - the drinks included in the AI is very good also. All the basic international spirits and cocktails are included, like Aperol Spritz, Negroni, Amaretto Sour, Corona and Heineken beers and so on. We were very satisfied with the selection and quality of the drinks. - the only downside regarding the dining experience was that between 14.30 and 19.00 there are no food options available in the AI package. The only food available in this interval is at the main bar, the Hub, but it is chargable. We didn’t like this, but we managed to adapt. Service and check-in/check-out: - overall we were very satisfied with the service. All the staff were friendly, helpful and nice and greated us with a smile everyday. Even the beach cleaning staff or the plumbers said hello with a smile everytime we met. We felt very welcomed and the overall atmosphere was great during our whole stay. A special mention to Nawaz from Melange, a great guy that welcomed us to breakfast even if we arrived after closing time in our first morning. - our host Hassan was also great and took very good care of us, helping us with reservations for restaurants and excursions and giving us all the information needed during our stay - a very nice touch was the check-in and check-out process. Everything happened inside our villas, with zero wait time or inconveninece. - the transfers to and from Pullman were also very well organized, with minimum wait time and with staff assistance all the way. All in all, i would highly recomment this resort as i found it to be of exceptional value. I would guess that they are trying to compensate the distance from Male and the domestic flight transfer needed to reach the resort with great service, food, drinks and accomodation and to be honest they are realy nailing it!
