May 2023 This used to be our favourite place to be, we’ve stayed at the Radisson Barbados many times over the past 10 years and never had any problems. This time was a little different! Rooms have not been updated in the 10 yrs we’ve been going and this year was no different, tired and run down not really worth the price you’re paying to stay there. The Aircon unit in our first room didn’t work so it was boiling and leaked all over the floor while we were out and so we were moved to another room and the same thing happened, so it was quite an uncomfortable stay, also had a leak in the bathroom which took 2 days for someone to come and resolve. Other than that the rooms are exactly the same, not changed at all, bathrooms are old, tired and grubby for what you’re paying, great views as always though and service staff were really helpful. The pool has seen better days, it was filthy we went in first day realised the bottom was completely filthy and didn’t go back in after that. The area around the pool felt run down and quite dirty, not what we had experienced previously. I’m thinking the closure over Covid probably didn’t help but it’s in quite a poor way now. We hardly sat round the pool at all this time it wasn’t a nice experience. Sargassum was a huge problem not really anything the hotel can do about nature but it was so bad most days we couldn’t go in the ocean and it stunk, if you attempted it you were just covered, there were some clearer areas further down the beach on the other side of the pier on occasion, the 14 days we were there we probably got to go in about 6-7 days. When we were in Antigua the following year the hotels cleared and buried as much as possible so as to try minimise the problem which made a huge difference. Went to our favourite lobster alive but the atmosphere was completely different, not the quite out the way little treasure we’d been to before, there were large groups of people partying on the beach in the evening, strong smell of weed straight in front of the restaurant and loud music blasting out, jazz band wasn’t playing but if they had been we wouldn’t have heard it. Dippers bar next door has always done lovely food and still does, great service and great food, drinks etc In the evening we went for a meal and from the balcony overlooking the beach we could see rats running all over and disappearing into the big tree and under the boats out the front, I know it’s not uncommon for rats to be close by however we’d never seen them in previous years so was a bit off putting. The breakfast at Radisson is lovely, such a great spread and the food was great and service good. It’s the first time we’ve actually been happy to be returning home. Really sad to be writing the review because this really was our favourite place and after this visit we decided not to return and try a different island instead, it’s an expensive holiday trotting off to the Caribbean and felt this time it had just been a waste. I’m surprised with a big chain like Radisson they haven’t upgraded anything, a real shame because the location on the beach is lovely on Carlisle bay. On a more positive note every year we do a catamaran and this time we went with calabaza and it was honestly the best one we have done, small groups no more than 12 people, food, drinks and crew were absolutely amazing a much nicer experience than some of the larger party type boats.
