Great hotel, nice Beach and friendly people. Enjoying the chill vibes of Jamaica. To stay a bit in shape and work on our health, we also enjoy the Riu Fit Yoga and Stretching Classes of Shanalee; she is wonderful and a very good & passionate teacher.

If you want a peaceful holiday, this is not the right choice

This is a large hotel with accommodation arranged over four blocks with block 4 being the furthest away from most of the facilities. The hotel faces directly onto the beach where you can walk to the end of the cove and back (approximately an hour). The bedrooms are spacious and the main restaurant offers a large variety of food. There is a mix of nationalities but the majority of guests are American. However, there are major issues with this hotel. Alarms are triggered in the middle of the night by people smoking in their rooms/balconies. There is a recorded message telling you to be vigilant and await further instructions. None are ever communicated and you are left in limbo; we didn’t know whether to get dressed or go back to bed. This happened twice in three days. In addition there was a dreadful row between two American guests with very loud screaming and shouting that continued during the night and into the morning. There is also an issue with guests playing ear splitting music in their rooms and on balconies to the detriment of other guests. Management appear to be indifferent. There is no enforcement of dress code resulting in some bizarre appearances. I did complain but was bounced to a central complaints address that, in turn, bounced me back to the front desk. Customer service is sadly lacking. The hotel is remote so you need to take a taxi.

Two weeks in paradises

What can I say a fabulous holiday from start to finish . Let’s start with the food , I was pleasantly surprised with the food options , all cooked , fresh , hot and high quality . The Steak house is a must try , this goes for the cocktails too , I have stayed in many Rui hotels but this has been by far the best for cocktails. Special mentions to Natasha in the American 24hr bar , always making my day with a fresh coffee and a warm smile first thing in the morning , she is a ray of light . The entertainment team really try to involve everyone , they remember your names and made my son feel very special , his favourites were Shadow and Shin Shin , always greeting us with energy and getting involved in the games . Star for me was Shaneslee her aqua aerobics and fitness classes each day were amazing , the first time I’ve been away and couldn’t miss one of her classes , she had be working out and takes her role seriously , this was nice to see because she made me accountable for staying on track with my fitness routine . The rooms were spacious , beds were comfy , I had no issues with the room, the problem I did have was when housekeeping forgot to give us towels but this was quickly resolved . The beach is lovely and you can walk right to the end , water is clear , look out for the starfish . White party was our best evening they put a lot of effort into their parties and it was great fun for all the family . The resort has a laidback family feel , I would defiantly visit again .

Not what I expected

There are more cons than pros to this hotel. We travelled out as a family of 7. On arrival , we were greeted by some welcome drinks. One of our party had their 18th birthday coming up in August and they would not let them have an adult band so couldn’t join us in the adult pool which was a shame as they had full access to their own alcohol in their room which doesn’t really make much sense. The food is very limited. It’s pretty much the same thing everyday. The prices in the shop on site are really high and tax is added ontop of the price. If you are going for 2 weeks the entertainment isn’t on a turn over timetable it’s the same entertainment. The entertainment team work so hard although depending on who you are they don’t make very much effort with you. I was really surprised with how many rude members of staff work at this resort. We booked to eat in the steakhouse one night. Before the meal arrived we asked for three beers, the meal came and still no drink. We asked again we were told very rudely by a staff member named Friday one minute. We had finished our meal and we still hadn’t had our drinks given to us. The rooms are always really clean the housekeeping staff do a really good job. The lifeguards just sit off or disappear I’m not to sure what the point of them being there is! There’s no smoking or vaping around the pool. There are designated areas for these. I would return back to Jamaica however not to this hotel.
