We have been coming to Kalami for 20 years, mainly independently and hiring a car for pick up at the airport, so there isn’t much of the island we haven’t visited. For the past two trips we have done a package holiday with transfers to San Antonio, you get dropped off on the top road and the hotel send transport to collect you and drop you off at reception. The hotel has gone through an extensive renovation process from when we first stayed here, then it was affectionately known as “The Pinks” due to the exterior colour. It has now transformed from ugly duckling to regal swan. The reception area is light and airy with a good selection of books you can borrow, we were given a welcome glass or orange juice whilst we checked in. You do have to pay a tourist tax, ours was €100 for both of us for a 10 night stay. Our room was on level 2 (304) it was spacious with plenty of hanging space, a good size bathroom with a powerful shower. The balcony made the most of the stunning views. From road level to the lift involves a walk up a fairly steep incline, you can cut a chunk of this out if you walk in front of the restaurant and go up the steps, it is then a manageable walk to the lift which stops just below the top pool. Both my husband and I are in our 60s and have arthritic knees and we managed ok, albeit slowly, They do have a little buggy that ferries guests up and down and Talis was a welcome sight at the end of the night to bag a lift. The dining area for breakfast has a wide terrace for eating outside. It is buffet style and the choice is amazing, definitely something for everyone. It also opens as a restaurant in the evening, Monday evening had a display of Greek dancing so we chose to dine here and the food was very good. There are 2 pools, one behind the restaurant and the other above level 5. I think it would be hard to find a hotel pool with a better view. There are comfortable sunbeds with thick mattresses and wide parasols, a lovely pool, with a few steps to navigate, if you are a bit unstable you might need a steadying hand. There is a nice bar area with comfy seating too. Opposite San Antonio is Callao beach bar/restaurant, done in the same classy style with sunbeds available for hire on the beach. There are several good restaurants in Kalami, particularly Kalami Beach Taverna and Thomas’s Place, Elia Pool bar up the side of the supermarket is well worth a visit too Dorina makes fabulous cocktails and does a great pizza and burger too, if you’re a sports fan you are likely to be able to watch your favourite team too. The staff at San Antonio were efficient and helpful, reception will make you reservations at other restaurants such a Nickolas Taverna in Agni (boat transfer available) or Dimitris on the top road ( picked up by George from outside San Antonio). There is a bus stop on the top road (up the steps at the side off the pool bar) to Kassiopi or Corfu Town, we prefer to visit Corfu town by Captain George’s water taxi €25 per person to the old port, he departs daily unless the weather is too bad. A nice touch we weren’t expecting when we checked out was to be sent home with a bar of olive oil soap and a lavender draw sachet. Kalami is our happy place and I have no qualms recommending it or San Antonio for a fabulous relaxing holiday
