Lovely stay

Just returned from 10 days staying Royal elite. Had a fantastic time. Check in was faultless, full info given on location of room & restaurants. It's a big resort but once you get the hang of it, it's no problem & the main lifts have info inside of what's on each floor. Room was large, bathroom had double sink & rainfall shower over bath. Full size bottles of shampoo/shower gel, conditioner, body lotion & liquid soap were provided. Welcome bottle of cava awaited us & a stocked fridge of water & drinks. Every evening a guy knocked with a chocolate & checks if you need more water/coffee supplies etc. There is a kettle & coffee machine in the room. Bathrobes & slippers. We had a 4th floor seaview, nice balcony with table & 2 chairs. The housekeeping was super, always spotless when we returned each day with fresh towels. Sheets were changed at least 3 times. What made it for us was the food. Royal elite restaurant was lovely. No fighting for tables, you are shown to one. Waiter service for drinks at breakfast & dinner. A chef carving a different roast every night. We also booked the Fusion restaurant for both Mexican & Asian, both superb. For lunch we ate in the pool snack bar. It's a self service buffet. Pizza, burgers,hot dogs, chips etc. Drinks on pump . We did try the main restaurant for lunch once but it was too chaotic for us. Both elite lounges are nice, one has an outdoor terrace with great views. Everything is help yourself & snacks like donuts are available. The hotel is a 25 minute stroll along the boardwalk to the marina & Rubicon shops. Nice place to grab a drink & a few clothes shops, a Skechers & the usual massive perfume shops. Overall we had the best time & would love to return in the future.

Like visiting an old friend but ............

We have been regular visitors to the Sandos Papagayo since 2004 and have experienced all its ups and downs. It has always been like visiting an old friend and in that respect you tend to over look or forgive its shortcomings but I would have to say the it is certainly on a downward trajectory which we really hope they take steps to stop. We paid for the Elite package and we have done for a number of years. The room really needs a good tidy up but cleanliness was excellent throughout the room and the hotel in general. The food in the Elite restaurant was disappointing. The breakfasts were lukewarm at best if not cold. The choice at dinner was a bit hot or miss, food was not all that hot and it was noticeable that the deserts in particular were not being replaced when they were gone by 9-9.15pm. It was also noticeable to us that the desserts in general at lunch and dinner have really been scaled back and they all seem to taste the same. The Elite lounges are really in need of attention. The chairs in the roof top lounge are grubby and need replacing, similarly in the other lounge some are pretty uncomfortable and they could probably fit a few more in as at nights it filled up quickly. The drink selection however is first class I don't think I have seen a better selection although we are not big drinkers. The staff in general are great, many have been there for years which is usually a good sign but the reception staff could do with a bit of a shake when we checked in it was pretty poor and when we checked out the person just nodded and took the key, there was no thank you, have you enjoyed your stay? etc. Will we be back? probably but come on Sandos these Elite packages are not cheap please let's have some investment. The location is first class and views are spectacular just need the hotel that they deserve.

Almost Faultless

This hotel is in a great location if you want wonderful views with the accommodation facing the correct way to shelter you if the northeast trade winds are out to play. The extensive all-inclusive arrangements allow you pick and choose what you eat and when you eat it. If the international (western) menu gets a bit familiar then the fusion restaurant offers something more country specific. We went on a Mexican night and were not disappointed. Our room was on the Elite package with some nice frills such as a welcome bottle of fizz that survived a few days with us. The rooms are at a higher level in the blocks that give you peace and quiet with a spacious bath/shower room. The beds were comfortable and the sunset views from the balcony were lovely. It's a big resort but it was easy to find a spot that suited you where it was busy or much quieter. I'd recommend the designated lounges in the Elite package especially the one on the top floor with the sun deck. The resort is at the end of a seaside boardwalk that will take you to the Marina in about 20 minutes where the Saturday market has a good range of local artisan items plus only a little bit of standard trinkets that you wouldn't give houseroom to. The port itself is further along and if you get to Playa Blanca itself you will discover why Sandos is a far better option. The beach directly outside the resort is Las Colorados. It's ok but a mix of rock and sand. Further along, after a short but challenging walk over the hill, is Papagayo beach itself that you can also access with a vehicle along a track. It's beautiful but there is nothing else there; that's why it's beautiful. I'm sure that individuals will find little niggles about Sandos but there honestly is nothing that should put people off who want a comfortable, clean resort with a range of amenities and a great staff team. Just remember that extensive buffet service means that hot food is usually hot although cold plates don't help a great deal!

A friendly and comfortable hotel

Room - C236. All-Inclusive Deal. Visited with wife. Thoroughly enjoyed a 10 day break here at an hotel I have visited before. Albeit 11 years ago. Reading some of the recent reviews I wondered what we would find, but it was as comfortable and welcoming as we remember. Some people need to do a little research before they book their holiday. Don't blame the hotel if the beach or the distance into town does not suit you. We can all see where it is and most have access to Google Earth! Room - comfortable and clean. everything we need and want Value - can't find better. Food choice was extensive and well presented. Not a single day passed when we were dissatisfied with the offering. Service - excellent. I look forward to going back.

A great hotel to relax and enjoy the sun

Had one of the best holidays at the Hotel in February. We have been to this hotel quite a few times and it always delivers. Great staff, great service, good food and always plenty to do. So much so, we are booked again for another 9 nights next February.

Sandos Papagayo . All Inclusive is located on the seafront in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. The hotel is close to beaches of the Papagayo Natural Park (600m). The Timanfaya National Park is 20 km away. The rooms are spacious and bright, with a balcony with views, bathroom with hairdryer, satellite TV with international channels. Each room provides a safety deposit box (supplement charge). The complex provides four outside pools, gym, minigolf and sports center, plus spa, sauna and steam bath. It also has eight bars,and a snack bar, as well as a few restaurants: - International Restaurant - Italian Restaurant - Fusion Restaurant: Alternately Mexican/Oriental Nights The front desk is 24 hour manned and has a tourist information including car rental and tour services.
