We travelled as a family, taking our oldest child out of university and youngest from school as my husband had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and a short prognosis and has been told if there is any where you want to go, do it now and make it special. We'd been to Mauritius multiple times in the past and he really loved it there so wanted our children to have the experience with us. In Kuoni's recommendations the hotel was suggested. I wasnt aware it has recently been closed for an extensive refurbishment which might have a large amount to you with the problems. The very vast majority of staff in the hotel seemed to be untrained, or if they were, there was no obvious system in use and staff must definitely did not know what to do(of not to do). It's sideways hard to try to establish where to sit in the restaurant as fingers were invisible to the staff who you would normal expect to indicate where to sit or take drinks orders( this was ridiculous, we ended up hunting down waiters to get a coffee). Evening meals were by far the worst go this kind of chaos, no critters available so we were presented a large cooking pot of saltfrom the kitchen which was very odd and not fitting for the restaurant but so ridiculous it was funny. Chilled white wine was stupid half poured in the tales and left( no ice buckets), really silly things like these. We had made a very specific request for a double and twin course together given by husbands condition we wanted our 7yo daughter to share a room next door with her 22yo brother, the hotel have them a double bed which wasn't appropriate though and said they couldn't find other arrangements. We ended up with a child bed in our room in the end as they couldn't work out anything suitable. Staff ignored the do not disturb light on the doorway and walked in to find a naked child screaming as I was in the shower rapidly trying to get out. This frequently happened. We took the hotel boat over to the private ilot which is the most beautiful part of the hotel and spent time over there, it's stunning and so peaceful. Out daughter lived climbing in the rocks and prepping into the blue water. It's also interesting for children as they're is lots of screen debris which my daughter likes to gather up. It's very tranquil here and beautiful. Overall the organisation, service and help we got at this hotel with the exception of one young porter was really poor. It appeared one manager passed things to another manger and so on and so forth. No one took any responsibility and nothing was sorted out. It was such a disappointment, unfortunately we didn't end up with the kinds of memories we went to make which was why it was so upsetting
