We spent 10 days at Six Senses Laamu for our honeymoon and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The resort is 1 hour seaplane from Male airport, as Laamu is one of the more southern atolls, but it was lovely to look out the window on the way over and there is a Six Senses lounge to relax in at the seaplane terminal whilst you wait. We were greeted by a Six Senses representative as soon as we were through customs who arranged all of our onward transfer via the seaplane terminal and even checked in our luggage for us so we didn't have to wait in line. We stayed in a Laamu Water Villa on Jetty C. The Laamu villas are towards the end of the jetty so we had an breathtaking uninterrupted view of the ocean. Jetty C is at the other end of the island from most of the restaurants and facilities but it’s a lovely 5 min bike ride or 10 min walk through the trees - and we really loved the quiet and privacy of this jetty. The villa was finished to a very high standard, was kept perfectly clean by our lovely room attendant Nimal and had everything we needed. We could relax on our private deck both in the day under the sun and at night looking at the stars and there was a fantastic view in particular from the upper deck. Every evening we relaxed with a drink at Chill Bar whilst we watched the beautiful sunset over the ocean before heading to dinner. The food was delicious, lots of local and regional dishes as well as international cuisines. We sampled all the restaurants but particularly enjoyed dining under the stars in the treetops at Leaf and our Tempanyaki show with Noman at Kaji. Ending the night with an ice cream as we strolled home through the trees was a particular treat. We were blown away by the marine life in Laamu - lots of fish, reef sharks and sting rays could be seen straight from our villa or the house reef. We would recommend starting off with the complementary guided snorkling of the house reef and seagrass to familiarise yourself and so you know what to look out for. Our favourites were definitely the turtles, really beautiful to see so many of them relaxed in their natural habitat. Dolphins can be seen swimming through the channel in the morning whilst enjoying breakfast but we also loved seeing them swimming alongside the boat on our sunset dolphin cruise. The sustainability effort from Six Senses is also really impressive - we would recommend the behind the scenes tour of all the hard and unseen work that goes into supporting the island and ensuring it operates as sustainably as it can, you can even feed the chickens! Finally - it is the people who make the place, and all of the hosts were so kind, helpful and attentive. A lot of care was take to ensure all the food was suitable for my nut allergy without me even having to raise it, and hosts at Longitude and Chill Bar quickly remembered our order after just a few days. A particular shoutout to Hassan and Arriba at Longitude, Muhi at Chill Bar, and most importantly Soba - our GEM - who took the time to check on us each day, was on hand to answer any questions we had and arranged all our activities and bookings for us. Knowing we were in safe hands made the holiday so relaxing. We said this was a once in a lifetime trip but hope to be able to return as soon as we can!
