The first time in 30 years +

For the first time in over 30 years we may not be able to return to the Palace this year, it's an authentic Greek tragedy! For the benefit of people who read reviews I thought a review I dictated almost ten years ago may help, so here goes. "The poem of A.E.Houseman, "Blue Remembered Hills", perfectly sums up the nostalgia felt on a grey English winter afternoon when you think back to your time sat on the Skiathos Palace terrace, with that 7 star view, gazing across to the Greek mainland and trying to count the myriad shades of blue of the Aegean Sea and mountains. Typically, reviews are always “of the moment” i.e. of the time you had when you were there but true value continues well after you have got back home. It demonstrates the truth of the old saying: “Quality is always remembered long after the price is forgotten”. And so it is with us and the Palace. Each year we return we are impressed with the new and re-assured by the old. The new, in the form of the continuous refurbishment program especially in the Public areas. Every review of the hotel comments on the extraordinary outside pool, terrace, bar and seating area, no photos can do really do justice to actually being there. But don’t overlook the indoor bar and wonderfully elegant adjacent lounge. With polished marble floors, lofty ceilings and full-length windows it is a room very reminiscent of the grandeur of the Edwardian era. Spend an hour or two in here and just feel your stresses melt away. And what of the old? Well this can only be a reference to the many, many people on the island we now call old friends both in the Palace and elsewhere. There are no owners, managers, waiters, shop staff or bar staff – we only know them as our friends. To some people returning to the same place year after year may seem very odd. Why would you do so when there are so many other places in the world? It’s a fair question and if you haven’t seen much of the world yet why not do so? But if you have been fortunate to have already seen a few places a couple of things tend to affect your decision, firstly, if it's only for a week you know the first few days are spent getting to know the place and before you know it you are packing to return so why take the risk of being disappointed? Secondly, you always compare the situation to what you have previously experienced. When we have visited other islands for example we find ourselves saying “now if we were in Skiathos……….” Maybe unfair but its natural. So we think of the Palace as like owning a holiday home without worrying about maintenance and everything else that goes along with it like cleaning!!And that’s what ultimately makes us, like many other people, return year after year – it’s all about the people! It is an undeniable truth that there are, in the world, truly glamorous hotels set in celebrity locations, Michelin starred restaurants, guaranteed weather on extraordinary beaches with plumbing! But could they ever feel like home from home as Skiathos and the Palace does for us? We doubt it but you may not. There are some great positive reviews here for the Palace and some more critical, we truly hope they all return to the Palace at some stage and for the less positive they start to “get” what we and lots of others “get.” And because it’s like home we like to get there as soon as possible and we recommend using the Taxis directly outside the airport arrivals door to take you the 11 kilometres so forget transfer buses. That way you can be sipping your first Ouzo on the terrace in about 20 minutes, how good is that!! The record is 11 minutes by the way!! Hopefully in 2036 you may also be able to reminisce so fondly on your time at the Skiathos Palace.

This is a lovely hotel very nicely positioned,but definitely not for people with walking difficulties. Also it is never a 5 star in many ways even though most of the staff go the extra mile.Having stayed at 5star hotels in Greece this one is very poor. Food quality maybe 3 star drinks overpriced and badly served. Our advice is look around for something better.

Beautiful island, lovely staff but a disappointing “5-star” experience

We recently stayed at Skiathos Palace Hotel, and while the island itself was lovely, our overall experience at this supposed 5-star hotel was disappointing. We had booked a Deluxe Sea View Room, but the room we received (No. 256) did not match the description or photos on either the hotel’s or the agency’s website (Odeon World Travel). The “sea view” was only partial while the main view was of the road, surrounding hills, and a covered area that looked like a drainage outlet, which really had a foul smell. The balcony furniture was of noticeably lower quality than what was shown online, and the room was located at the very far end of the hotel, which was inconvenient as we were traveling with a small child. Several maintenance issues also affected our stay. The room phone didn’t work, the safe was locked when we arrived, and the terrace furniture was basic and uncomfortable. For a hotel rated as five stars, these issues are unacceptable. Our complaint to Jana from the hotel staff was in vain, as she did absolutely nothing to help or even attempt to arrange the room we should have received in the first place. However, what truly stood out and what deserves special recognition was the staff. Some of them were simply exceptional and truly made a difference: Milica, who looked after the children in the play area, was outstanding. Her kindness, professionalism, and warmth were incredible, and our daughter still talks about her with a big smile. Milica genuinely made our stay better, and we are so grateful for her care. Efi, the lady at the pool bar, was wonderful - always cheerful, quick, and welcoming. Marijana, Tara, Anastasia, Nicole, Yulia, and all the male restaurant staff were fantastic — attentive, polite, and doing their best to make guests feel comfortable despite the hotel’s shortcomings. These people are the reason this review is not one or two stars. They represent true hospitality and professionalism, even when the management and facilities fall short. Overall, the location is stunning and the staff are exceptional, but the rooms, maintenance, and management do not reflect a 5-star standard. With proper investment and a stronger sense of accountability, this hotel could live up to its potential — but for now, it sadly does not.

Exceptional Staff Made Our Stay Unforgettable!!! We recently stayed at this hotel and were truly impressed by the dedication and warmth of the staff. Their hard work and hospitality made our visit incredibly enjoyable. Catering Team: A heartfelt thank you to Vasilis, George & Letteris, what an intelligent young men. Also big thank you to lovely Thanos, Panos, and Anastasia – they were exceptionally friendly, caring, and helpful throughout our stay. Their kindness and professionalism made every meal a pleasure. The food itself was absolutely fantastic, especially dinner! The variety of dishes, fresh salads, and delicious desserts was outstanding. We were spoiled for choice, and the staff were always ready to recommend options, clear tables, and serve drinks with a smile. Reception Team: Maria, Katerina, Kiki, and Samanta were incredibly helpful and welcoming. They provided great suggestions for places to visit and were always available to assist with any queries. A special mention also goes to the cheerful bus driver who took us to and from the beach – his friendliness added a lovely touch to our experience. Hotel & Surroundings: The view from the hotel was absolutely stunning – truly a highlight of our stay. While the hotel itself could benefit from some updates (such as furniture, carpets, and interior décor), the overall experience was still very positive. We stayed just off-season (from 29th September), and although the weather wasn’t ideal, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after.
