We were incredibly disappointed and honestly heartbroken by our stay. This stop in Imerovigli was supposed to be the highlight of our two-week honeymoon, our big “splurge” moment, and the place we were most looking forward to. Instead, it turned out to be one of the lowest points of the entire trip. The problems started before we even stepped foot on the property. After weeks of emailing back and forth, we sent a message to let them know we’d be arriving a little early. We never got a response because, apparently, we were suddenly using the “wrong email.” No one had ever clarified this. So we arrived and ended up standing in the freezing, windy caldera for over an hour, tired and confused, while random hotel staff from the neighboring properties tried to figure out what to do with us. For both our arrival and departure, there were no porters available. We had to carry all of our luggage (heavy honeymoon bags) up and down the steep caldera stairs entirely on our own. It was exhausting, frustrating, and honestly shocking for a place that markets itself as luxury. Once we finally got to the room, things somehow got worse. Almost everything was broken. The humidifier didn’t work. The shower lights were out, so we had to shower in complete darkness. The shower wouldn’t drain, so we were literally standing in dirty, days-old water. Both pools, indoor and outdoor, were cold and unusable. We asked about them multiple times, and were assured they’d be working, but nothing changed. And then there was the smell. Oh my god, the smell. The room absolutely reeked… a musty, moldy, damp cave smell that clung to everything. All of our clothes were soaked in it. Our bags, our jackets, even things that hadn’t been unpacked yet…. all ruined. When we got to our next destination, we had to immediately find and pay for laundry service just to be able to wear our own clothes again. It cost us time, money, and peace of mind. And some items still carry that horrible smell, even now. This was supposed to be a dream stop on our honeymoon. Instead, it caused us stress, frustration, and lasting disappointment. For the price we paid and the memories we hoped to make, this experience was devastating.
