We recently stayed at the Rockley for our first visit to Barbados, and we were not disappointed. The first thing we noticed about the property was how friendly and welcoming the staff were, and the finishing touches with rum punch and cool towels offered on arrival, and the stunning decor that flows throughout the property, as well as how knowledgeable everyone was about the island offering advice on all sorts of subjects (food, beaches, tours, activities...) We had a 1 bed suite on the 2nd floor overlooking the bar area - the view was a little masked by the canopy over the bar area, but we still had sight of the pool area, the sea and the lovely palm trees blowing in the wind. Some people had commented on the proximity to the road and the noise being a problem, we did not find this to be an issue - the bedroom was at the back of the hotel away from the main road, and we slept soundly and peacefully every night! The room itself was spacious with a bedroom, large double bathroom, kitchenette (with fridge freezer, oven, hob, kettle, toaster, all crockery and glasses etc), a lounge seating area and a balcony with table and chairs. The whole suite was fitted with fans and air conditioning which meant the room was a welcoming respite from the heat outside! The pool and bar area were lovely, and we enjoyed utilising The Rockley beds/umbrellas across the road on the beach too - collecting towels/tokens for pool/beach was very easy. The breakfast buffet was good - with the option to sit inside in the cool or outside on the terrace. Each morning there were a selection of cereals, fruits, breads and pastries to choose from as well as hot foods on rotation and an egg bar. The staff could not be more helpful making sure you got your fill to send you off full of energy for a day in the sun. The were a variety of activities offered by the hotel - we attended the Manager's Cocktail Party, which was a relaxed way of meeting other guests and staff and getting a feel for Bajan culture, as well as going on the Island Tour with Troy & Ernest which was great - so detailed and a fab way of seeing the island and getting an idea of other areas we might want to visit separately to see in a bit more depth. We had pre-booked some other activities ourselves - a catamaran trip and rum distillery tour, but we got the impression that the hotel staff would have been more than happy to help organise such trips for us if we had waited until arrival, as well as restaurant recommendations. We ate in the restaurant twice, on pasta night when the menu is limited, and on another evening - both times we ate outside, and received great service from the staff. The food was all cooked well and portion sizes were great. Similarly, we often had happy hour cocktails from the bar - staff were super friendly and helpful and the drinks were gooood! In terms of location, Rockley is well situated, and we found there was no need for a hire car during our stay - there are regular buses running in both directions outside the hotel as well as a taxi rank across the road. We used the buses to visit Oistins and Bridgetown/Carlisle Bay, and walked a lot in the local area - we ate at a variety of places locally, we'd recommend Worthing Food Court, Tapas, Blakeys and Chilly Moos (for afternoon Ice Cream!)
