Sugar Beach a Viceroy Resort

This is a truly beautiful stay. Upon entrance they staff tells you they will spoil you and they follow through! The staff could not do enough for you. The butler system was so easy allowing you to make dinner reservations and plans with remarkable ease. The app is fabulous and works quite well. PROS: - the service!!!! -the rooms, we had a grand villa I believe and it was fabulous - the location cannot be beat truly stunning - great drinks - good food - amazing spa -the beach CONS (the resort was amazing but I always like to know any downsides, even down sides out of resorts control, when booking) - if you choose Saint Lucia you are choosing inconsistent weather. It didn’t bother us much but it’s true. - the winding road from the airport to report and back is no joke if you get car sick. - you really can’t walk around the resort. I underestimated how much I would have to rely on shuttle system. Can be annoying around meal times. - you are in the middle of a rainforest. It is stunning, beautiful, but LOUD at night. Perhaps the resort could provide earplugs in toiletry kit. -again, RAINFOREST, there are mosquitos and you will get bit. I would go again.

First, the highlights: the Dive Center staff! The location is beautiful, rooms are lovely. Dive Center: the staff here are phenomenal. Elijah was so helpful and responsive in the preplanning stages (I wanted to get certified). Mervin, my dive instructor, must be the most patient and kind instructor on earth! I was not an easy student, I'm like a baby elephant once that tank is on my back. Mervin assessed where I was at (again, elephant) and created an achievable plan and kept encouraging me when I was ready to quit. I got my basic certification all thanks to him. The location is gorgeous, right between the 2 Pitons. Fair warning: the property is STEEP. I'm from SF so that's really saying something, they have shuttles to get you around (some of the drivers are the sweetest). My first 4 nights were in a beach bungalow, thankfully. If you can swing it, can't recommend enough. You'll be at "ground level" where everything except the spa and front desk are basically located (breakfast is served just a little, walkable way up). Last 2 nights were in a villa up the hill. The cottage was sweet but could definitely do with a better, bigger umbrella on the open deck. There was a lot of rain (thankfully always short spouts) and that left everything soaked. The bad: very, very expensive food that was on the boring side. They have very little Lucian dishes on the menu but what few they did have were great! Try and stick to those if you can. Better yet, skip the resort whenever possible at mealtime and head into town. Food plus taxi will still be cheaper. Definitely skip the Friday night "beach BBQ." Maybe because of the rain, this was an indoor buffet with meh offerings (although kudos to the pastry chef). To be fair, my fish tacos served on the beach were very good. All the portions here are massive. As a solo traveler, I never finished anything. They have GREAT burgers during the day at the pier. Takes a while but so worth it. Pro tip: by the Dive Center is a souvenir shack not affiliated with the hotel. The lovely woman who works there can order food from her mom's restaurant and have it brought over. Delicious, affordable, and LOCAL. There's also a boat that moors by there during the day that makes THE best drinks: fresh, local fruit, strong booze, at half the price of the hotel bar.

We stayed at Sugar Beach in June 2024, and loved it so much we returned again this year. I am always hesitant to return to a resort so soon as it doesn't always live up to my memories, but this was not the case at Sugar Beach. It was just as exceptional the second time around! We even got an upgrade at check in which really sealed the deal. In my opinion, the two best things about Sugar Beach are the location and the service. I always feel like i'm in jurassic park while walking around, it's so lush and the pitons are incredible. Everything is very clean and beautiful. The beach doesn't feel crowded and my kids love to play on the floating rings/boards. We really enjoy the onsite snorkeling. My 3 year old discovered the kids room next to the terrace and went everyday to draw with Ms Gem (not sure the name is correct, but thats what our daughter called her). That was really sweet and something our daughter is still talking about. The service is among the best i've ever received. I love not having to worry about anything! I was able to organize airport transfers, restaurant reservations, and activities through the concierge a few weeks before our trip. The drivers are always on time at the airport and waiting with a cooler of waters and cold beer, which immediately puts me in vacation mode. Our butler this year (Karen) was great and we were able to catch up with our butler from last year (Linus) who we loved! Karen was even able to get us some last minute Jetty Burgers before our 12 o'clock departure which was much appreciated and just shows how they go the extra mile. Housekeeping does a fantastic job and everyone from the waitresses to the shuttle drivers are friendly. While my favorite restaurant (Cane Bar) was closed for renovations this time, we still had some great meals. The Latin Fiesta really stood out to me and exceeded expectations. Don't skip it! The breakfast buffet is a family favorite, with so many options (but please bring back the donuts!). My husband and sons are obsessed with the Jetty Burgers. We also did the family chocolate making experience at the Coco Mill and the chocolate was so good that I wish we brought home more. Are there any cons? It is expensive, sure, but I feel like you get what you pay for in this case. There are some people on the beach offering trips/straw flowers/etc but if you tell them no they leave you alone and do not approach you again. This was big for me because I have visited places where I was constantly approached on the beach, which I hate and would be a deal breaker for me, but it was not an issue. Hopefully they keep it this way. I also want to point out that a lot of the negative reviews you will see are from people *not* staying at the resort. Tripadvisor should really separate the reviews for Sugar Beach the place and Sugar Beach Viceroy Resort. We will 100% be returning for a third trip and can't wait!

Our experience is Sugar beach was nothing more of phenomenal. Sugar beach is a world clash resort with world class staff, services and amenities. We enjoyed every second of our honeymoon at the resort and cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking for the vacation of a lifetime. We were lucky enough to be staying in the 700 block of the resort and we served by our outstanding Butler team. We especially made strong connections with Nyamka (sorry for misspelling!) and Tyran who did everything they could to make our honeymoon special as possible. Even on my birthday, they hung balloons from the bed and made us feel really special on what was a really special day. My wife especially love the skin care products that were local to the resort and they surprised her with new ones every day. That was a brilliant touch. I wish the best for our butlers and thank them so much for their outstanding service and making us feel so special on such a special week. One of the only suggestions we have for the room would be to include some sort of streaming device to allow people to access the standard streaming apps, especially live sports. The DVD player is fun and nostalgic, but the list of DVDs are limited and sometimes unavailable. The cable Channels are also difficult to remember so this would help a lot with that. Another note— the shuttles are readily available and we never had to wait more than two minutes for the shuttle from our rooms or from anywhere on the resort. The shuttle drivers are incredibly friendly and we truly enjoyed every single interaction we have with them. Thank you to that operation’s staff!! Another reason this resort is world class is simply the grounds. The landscaping and art of both exquisite and make you feel like you’ve been transported to another planet every day when you leave for breakfast everyone on that team should be really proud of what they have created at Sugar beach and I’m sure they will leave people breathless for years to come. The food at Sugar beach is certainly outstanding. We enjoyed every single meal that we had and even had a few meals that are up there on for the best we’ve ever had (Latin Fiesta and Saltwood). Be prepared— it is the most expensive resort I certainly have ever been in terms of food. Our food and beverage total ended up being about 1/3 of our cost for the rooms for 7 nights. Nonetheless, every guest will enjoy the food, especially the Breakfast buffet and Jetty Burgers. One of the only misses for the entire week was the room not having a microwave. We ended up leaving most restaurants with leftovers that we could store in our fridge but did not have the ability to reheat and enjoy the next day. This was slightly frustrating because it forced us to go back to the restaurants which we weren’t as hungry for. If management could find a way to include microwaves in the rooms that would be a big upgrade for the guests. The experience at the spa was completely incredible. We got the couples massage followed by the private pool and the Temescal steam room. The entire thing was a once in a lifetime experience and we thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. It felt like being transported to another planet surrounded by mango trees. Great job to that team. Finally, there’s the beach. The beach was something that met and exceeded all of our expectations. The water is crystal clear the service was outstanding and attentive, and we didn’t feel too bothered by the local vendors. The private beach near jetty burgers was also a great option to get away from the crowds if we wanted to. Watch out for small jellyfish that are relatively harmless by the diving area. All in all, we remember this experience for the rest of our lives and we are really truly grateful to everyone who works at this world class resort for making our week so special. Everything was wonderful minus it’s a public beach. We were on a family trip and didn’t realize the education our kids would have to learn about drugs by staying at the resort. The locals walk the beach selling drugs. We also wish we did all excursions through the resort or not done them at all. The people on the beach selling excursions stay away from. We couldn't enjoy the excursion bc of how unsafe we felt. The snorkeling was the most enjoyable. The bathrooms throughout the resort were not maintained. The gym bathroom was the only one I thought was clean. The rooms are clean and the staff is amazing. Worth the money overall and it’s really sad the bad parts are on the beach bc the resort could be so much more. When your spending that much per night you don’t want to worry about safety or trying to enjoy the beach but all the tourist dropped off by boat on the beach constantly in your view taking the million instagram photos. I wish the tourist not paying to stay there had their own side of the beach. You shouldn’t get the same amenities if you’re not paying. When we come back we would stay at the resort and only do water excursions. We did say we would revisit so with all that said we know no place is 100% perfect. I only add the bad so maybe something can be changed to make it better. Took a boat ride back to the airport bc it felt unsafe to travel by road. On the way to the airport a naked man was on the side of the road.
