My husband and I had a relaxing four day stay at the Fives between April 10-14. The property is absolutely beautiful. The rooms were huge, well decorated and very comfortable. We were upgraded from a junior suite to a one bedroom suite and it was so nice to have a separate living room and kitchen area. The bed was so comfortable. This hotel is perfect for a quicker getaway or one where you want to relax, but you might get a bit bored on a longer trip as there is not much in the way of entertainment (but that is just fine with us). It was a nice chill crowd, mostly couples or small groups of adults, a few small kids. It has more of a "hotel" vibe than a resort. The hotel is a 15 min walk to Puerto Morelos, which has lots of restaurants and shops. Really cute touristy area that I would strongly recommend checking out. Take the two reviews from April 14 with a hug grain of salt. Those commenters caused a massive hour-long scene in a dinner restaurant because they felt they weren't served fast enough (we had no issues), screaming at the hostess and wait staff. It was truly appalling and my actual only complaint with the hotel is that they did not shut it down immediately, for the sake of the employees and everyone else in the restaurant. They also took up 6 chairs at the beach between 3 people, all day. The comments about limited restaurants being open at one time are generally correct, and an option other than a full sit down meal would have been nice. I think if they opened a "grab and go" option for breakfast and lunch, it would mostly solve this issue, as someone who didn't want a full meal could still grab a yogurt and fruit and head to the pool. Although the dinner restaurants didn't take reservations, you could put your name on the list and come back when your table was ready. But really, it was not a huge issue since we weren't in a hurry. That all said - the food was great. The breakfast at RoMarleys was amazing, and the dinner at Al Mare was too. Everything was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. We never had any issue getting beach or pool chairs, although I agree there aren't a ton (but it isn't a huge resort so this makes sense). I was very appreciative that the staff DID help people find chairs, and moved belongings that were "saving" chairs for hours on end, with no person in sight. It is one thing to put your bag down and go to the bathroom or to the bar, but people who "hold" chairs for 8 hours while they wander around the hotel and only sit there for 2 hours are causing the exact problem they are complaining about. The adult's pool on the rooftop deck was never busy and we had no issue getting a spot in the morning. Tip, they unlock the patio at 9am and we would go up then and have our pick of chairs without issue. We sat there until we wanted lunch around 1-2 and then gave up the chairs for someone else. It was really beautiful up there (and there was a bar) and we preferred it to the beach. I went to the spa which was also great. Had a fantastic massage. We would absolutely recommend the Fives Oceanfront for a shorter trip where you just want to relax and enjoy some good food. Interested to try their larger properties as well.
