We have stayed in some excellent hotels in Sri Lanka on a tour of the country, and indeed the world. The Golden Crown rates very highly. The service is superior from the moment you arrive outside the hotel, and throughout your stay. We only stayed one night and truly wish our stay was for much much longer. The infinity swimming pool is nice (not huge but large enough) and with great views. The area soon gets busy so this could be an issue although we didn’t have any problems. There’s a nice bar next to the pool. Food at the buffet is excellent. By far the best in Sri Lanka. There is a huge variety of choices to suit every taste and preference. Food is of excellent quality. Dietary requirements are taken care of very well, and the hotel head of food and beverages takes a personal interest in dietary needs and indeed anything else. Service in the restaurant is excellent from all staff members. There is entertainment by a [electronic] violinist and he is excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to him whilst eating. The bedroom was excellent, traditional style yet modern in terms of amenities. Large en-suite bathroom. Very clean. Infact everywhere the hotel is spotlessly clean and tidy. Our only slightly negative comment is that the luggage porter at the hotel entrance is too enthusiastic with the luggage wanting to move it when not requested. This is a large ‘corporate’ type hotel and may not be to everyone’s taste - it is far removed from a boutique type hotel, but it’s at the top of its game.
