My husband and I recently returned from our second visit to Oberoi Beach Resort, Mauritius; having spent 10 wonderful days there last year we immediately re-booked, this time for two full weeks. Some would say that it’s often inadvisable to try to recreate the magic of a wonderful experience but, in the case of this fantastic resort, there were no such concerns. From the moment we arrived until the time of our departure, we were treated like family or old friends by the wonderfully warm and attentive staff, some of whom we remembered from last year’s visit. Kareem and Natacha welcomed us on our arrival with cool towels and a virgin Mohito, after which Natacha guided us to our beautiful pool villa (sincere thanks to the management for the allocation of this breathtaking surprise) whilst the ever-smiling Adarsh delivered our luggage to our villa. The villa, with its spotless, spacious and extremely comfortable accommodation, raised outdoor dining pavilion and fabulous pool with sunbeds and parasol, became our chosen backdrop for our renewal of vows (more of this later). Last year we met some absolutely wonderful people at the Oberoi and so we were delighted to see some of those faces again; Shaan, Roshan & Prashant at the main restaurant, Ralph at the Bar and Solomon at On The Rocks all welcomed us back and continued with the amazing service we became accustomed to last year. A highlight was being greeted with such warmth by Amanda (Guest Services) at breakfast. All of these wonderful people mentioned above managed, yet again, to take our breath away with their genuine hospitality and friendship. Once again, the food at all of the restaurants was superb, from the Ricotta and Lemon pancakes at breakfast and the delicious Ombrine baked in clay for dinner at the main restaurant, the Prawn Tacos and (very large) burger for lunch at On The Rocks, delicious bar snacks, fruit kebabs and ice cream on the beach, the amazing steaks and freshly caught seafood for dinner at On The Rocks, the delicious menu served in the Gunpowder room and the Herb Trail; we seriously could not fault anything. It was all utterly superb. During our stay we decided to renew our wedding vows; having been together for 10 years in February and, being as we were in our own personal paradise, we thought this would be a good time. Our lovely Amanda and Kate from Guest services met with us to discuss our wishes to have a very small and private ceremony in the garden of our beautiful villa, and we were absolutely thrilled with the arrangements. We had a truly memorable afternoon, all captured by Jean Jacques, the photographer and overseen by Amanda and Kate. We also had a beautiful chocolate ganache cake and a bottle of bubbles to complete the event. I must also take this opportunity to thank Ragina (Housekeeping) for the beautiful room decorations, both in the morning and at turndown. Just beautiful. One of our favourite spots was on the main beach in front of the main restaurant and the lovely Sarah would always make up our sunbeds and deliver delicious snacks and fresh water & towels to keep us comfortable. Sarah was such a lovely, hardworking, friendly and helpful young woman. She clearly took great pride in keeping everything in order. A mention must also go to Hope who was always pleasant and helpful. Seriously, I could write a book about how wonderful this hotel and its staff are – I’ve had to re-write and abridge this review several times because I want to ensure all the fantastic people who contributed to our most perfect holiday were mentioned and recognised. I have already made mention of a few above, but, for the purpose of brevity, I will list below other team members who we fortunate enough to meet. Shoab, Dhanish & Davish (Housekeeping) Danav, Amal, Aina, Ayusha, Justin, Aum, Yash and Aditya (Main Restaurant), Oomar, Mevin, Vasudha & Jaiswul (On The Rocks) Jyoti, Rabin, (Beach and Bar) Naveen (Gunpowder Room) Samantha (Spa)… best Indian Head massage – Ever! Special mentions MUST go to Akshay for his wonderful kindness and humour, Rikita also for her humour and beautiful smile, Prashant for taking a lovely photo of John and I after our vows, Solomon for his excellent service and big smile, Chef Singh for his dedication to his trade, his desire to create fantastic dishes (which he surely does) and his friendship, lovely Amanda for her incredible hospitality and, of course, our dear friend Shaan who, without doubt, constantly went above and beyond all expectations to look after us during our stay. What would we do without him? And finally, John and I would like to thank the General Manager, Mr Vikram Pandy, for overseeing this incredible resort and for his kind interactions with us during our stay. Our second visit has confirmed to us that Oberoi Beach Resort, Mauritius, deserves every one of its five stars. We look forward to our return.
