The exterior design of The Pari Sudha Petulu/Ubud is visually appealing, set in a stunning natural environment. Whoever handled the landscaping and exterior design did a commendable job. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Made and his daughter (I suppose), who went out of their way to assist us. Despite the nice design and attractive exterior, our experience was marred by numerous issues. We stayed in the HOLY RETREAT ROOM, the most expensive room they offer, which was marketed as having a semi-private pool. Unfortunately, the pool was purely decorative because is not big enough and not maintained for use. The room itself was very small, lacking adequate storage space, and the thin walls meant we could hear everything from the outside and neighboring rooms. The room was not sealed properly, allowing lizards, mosquitoes, and potentially even mice to enter. While the bed was comfortable, the mattress emitted an unpleasant odor, and the mosquito net was dirty and full of holes. The bathroom was the worst aspect. Despite being covered, it leaked during rain, and the wooden floorboards were warped and emitted a foul smell, reminiscent of urine and sewage. The bathroom walls were shared with the adjacent room's bathroom, making privacy impossible as we could hear every sound from next door including flatulence and urination sounds of the neighbors. This lack of proper separation extended to the bedroom, where the bathroom door was just a sliding paravane ineffective at blocking noise and smells. Face towels were not provided, and there were no slippers or bathrobes. We only had body towels and were only changed once during our five-day stay, just after we explicitly requested it. Breakfast was terrible, far from the enticing photos. The food looked presentable but tasted bad, with the only somewhat edible item being the pancakes. The hotel did not provide bottled water in the rooms; guests had to fill their own bottles from a dispenser in the restaurant. Also, the room's mini fridge had an unpleasant smell. The main pool is nice and big enough for actual activities. A real pleasure, BUT there was construction ongoing in front of the main pool and on the side of our room, creating noise and dust throughout our stay. The whole experience of that wonderful pool was ruined by this construction site. When you research for booking this location you should know the following: The Google Map is misleading. The address on the map is just a drop-off desk; the actual hotel is accessible only by foot or scooter through a 150m long, narrow alley (filled with trash, though this is due to the neighbors, not the hotel itself). Carrying luggage through this path and down and up the stairs could be inconvenient. Take care at night, a flashlight would be necessary. The entrance to this alley is at a different address on the same street, about 20 meters from the drop-off point. Overall, this stay was far below expectations. Is indeed a budget accommodation, but this should not excuse the shortcomings in hygiene and living conditions. There are too many positive reviews that create misleadingly high expectations. Our experience was far from satisfactory.
