When we were planning our trip, we narrowed it down to the Ritz and the St. Regis in the Maldives. There was much discussion about the resorts themselves, the food, and the quality of service we would receive, etc. After spending 7 days at the Ritz, we can honestly say there shouldn't even have been a discussion as to which resort to stay in. I'll apologize in advance for a lengthy review but I believe it needs to be done. We will say that our stay at the Ritz Maldives changed our opinions on how resorts should be. While we have stayed at plenty of Ritz and St Regis all over the world, we decided to write a review of this stay because honestly, it deserves one and most importantly, its not like other locations that "innocently request" a review while they hover over you. From arriving at the Male Airport, they make sure to handle your belongings and ensure you are taken care of. The yacht transport was super nice and quick, approximately a 50 min ride to the resort. Side note, please be aware that no matter what price you find for your stay, you will be paying a hefty transfer fee; for the 2 of us it was $2,200 round trip. And no, you can't hire your own transport to the resort. You MUST use one of their options. If you would like a more private transport, they do offer a private yacht or a private seaplane for a considerable amount more. The resort itself is beautiful. Everything was very modern and we loved the designs everywhere. We were lucky enough to do both the Overwater villa for 4 days and the Beach villa for 3 days. Each is exactly the same layout, although I believe the beach villa is slightly bigger. The ultimate decision you'll have to make is what you feel is a better fit for how you expect to spend your time. We enjoyed the ability to jump into the ocean and snorkel right from our room in the overwater villa. There was complete privacy as there was no one in front of us that could look in. The beach side will have some people walk by occasionally but still felt very private. But with this villa, we walked right out onto the beach and was closer to the restaurants. Getting around was super easy. Everyone is given bikes to ride around the island and it was super fun to do so. When you're heading to dinner and are dressed, your butler will pickup in a golf cart so no need to worry. Now the important stuff.. the food. There was plenty of restaurants with a variety of options, from Italian to Chinese, Indian to Japanese, Thai, Steakhouses, Beach side with everything from mediterranean to American. I should note that there are 2 islands and some of the restaurants are on the smaller island. In fact, our favorite spots were on the smaller island. The food truck had the best pork belly bao bun ive ever had and mango sticky rice better than in Thailand, hands down. All thanks to Jasmine! She really knows what's she's doing and is super nice. Please make sure you try her food truck. The Indian rest also located on the smaller island is by far the best food at the Ritz. We wish we knew about it earlier in our trip because we would have spent entire time eating there. Also recommend the fish and chips at the beach spot on main island. If you're lucky enough to meet Jessica, she is one of the best people there. We saw her daily at breakfast and she would take care of us as if she was our private butler. She recommended so many great dishes and were so appreciative for her. Huge thank you!! Breakfast itself was great, no matter what you wanted to eat it was available, from lobster omelettes, tom yum soup, eggs, curry, noodles, a pastry selection that was never ending and some delicious drinks! The price for it was very reasonable. Speaking of which, be prepared to spend about $400+ daily for food for 2 people. There are packages we saw afterwards that offered food included so I would recommend taking advantage of those packages. Our Aris Meeha, Arafath, was such a great human being. From the moment we arrived to the second we left, he was the most attentive and helpful individual and we are very appreciative for him. I bothered him so much so we're thankful he was great at what he did. Organized whatever we needed and brought us wherever we needed to go. Every morning he would let us know of the activities that day and thats a huge deal. There were many activities to do and honestly, if you didn't want to do anything, this was the perfect island for that too. As a tip I think everyone should know, the resort is really pretty and the restaurants are as well but one thing we packed for was to dress up every night figuring we needed to do so. But every place could be visited super casual if you wanted to, as most people did. There were plenty of people who dressed up but if you don't want to, you won't have to. This was also a very family friendly location. We weren't expecting it but there was plenty of things to do for kids. Also, one thing we really loved was that no matter how many people were on the island, we never once felt like it was crowded by any stretch. In fact, it was the opposite. We always felt like it was our own private island While there's plenty more to write about, I think I hit all the important parts. We would absolutely come back. Before I end this though, I feel like it's important for us to thank every one there. The people I mentioned and I'm going to try my best to remember everyone's names that we met with, all deserve the recognition from the Ritz because they really were amazing individuals. I apologize in advance for the spelling but thanks to: Moodu, super funny and helpful, our photographer Sammy, the staff including Sipee, Tom (I know thats not his real name lol), Yogi, Sunny and Robert (bobby) at the Eau Bar, Rasheen. I know theres more and I feel bad forgetting but needless to say, everyone deserves the recognition for being the best staff we've had in the world.
