Official Description

The Sandpiper is discreetly one of the most awarded luxury hotels in Barbados, surrounded by lush gardens filled with tropical flora, creating an atmosphere of ultimate privacy. The hotel is situated on a beautiful sandy beach on the West Coast, gently lapped by turquoise waters and bordered by a tree shaded wooden deck. Much of the Sandpiper's charm and style are attributed to Wayne and Karen Capaldi who run it with meticulous attention to detail without sacrificing the relaxed manner of the Caribbean. Combined with their staff's enthusiasm for pampering their guests, this results in many guests returning year after year.

Wonderful beach front hotel close to Holetown

30 Apr 2025
Location, service, and facilities are all excellent. Situated within easy walking distance of Holetown bars and restaurants. Staff are lovely and make time to stop, chat, and give advice on places to see. Food was excellent with extensive breakfast choice. Water sports guys were very helpful too. Good gym and lap pool which was quiet enough to get some good lengths in. Excellent hotel.

A True 5 star small hotel

5 star rated hotel, with 5 star facilities and service. Staff are all really dedicated to making your stay a pleasure. Option for smart evening dining, or casual beach bar dining make this hotel better than before. The menu is varied and the food presentation excellent. Breakfast buffet is great, and there are some cooked options I have never tried before, which was fun.

Superb hotel

31 Mar 2025
One of the loveliest hotels I’ve stayed in, understated luxury, no glitz or fuss. Incredible levels of service from all the staff who are friendly rather than stuffy. Several of the staff have been here for 35+ years. Excellent light lunches at Harold’s with daily specials and the main lunch menu is also available in the evening, which we appreciated particularly on the day we arrived. Superb fine dining restaurant, we had our best meals of the holiday here. Plenty of places to lie in the sun either by the beach or around the pools, although could perhaps do with more shaded areas in the afternoon. Extremely comfortable sun loungers. Live music on several nights which was very good when we heard it, finishes by 22:00 but could do with starting a bit later as it’s very close to the restaurant and bar and rather kills the conversation. Easily walkable to Holetown. Children are now accommodated all year round but apparently they try to limit numbers of very young ones, it wasn’t a problem when we were there. Seemed slightly odd to have White Company toiletries in the bathrooms, would have been nice to have a local brand such as those in the public areas (St Lucy Botanicals, I think?) Will definitely return.

A great holiday at the Sandpiper!

31 Mar 2025
We've recently returned from a ten day break at the Sandpiper and thoroughly enjoyed it. The guys here have successfully managed to recreate what seemed to us, the ambience of an English country house hotel in a Caribbean setting. The hotel is well situated, quite near to Holetown; it's easy to get along the west coast by taxi or bus. We had a 'standard' garden room, which was pleasant enough and surrounded by lush planting (as are all rooms) - though not huge, it was tastefully decorated with a comfy bed and worked well enough for us. Pretty good soundproofing from other rooms, though there was some traffic noise, but not enough to bother us. Staff are 98% excellent and seem genuinely happy in their jobs at the Sandpiper, with more than a few having worked there for many years. We were on half-board and ate vastly too much because the food was sooo good! Breakfast and dinner choice and quality in the lovely main restaurant really first-rate, and Harold's beach café-bar a fantastically positioned lunch option with tasty lighter choices. There are various water sports facilities provided by the Sandpiper on the beach in front of the hotel. However, the sea was unusually rough during our stay, and most activities were cancelled. The other guests? Mostly Brits and a few Americans, and generally couples in the 55 + age bracket - some returning every year for years. We fit into this demographic and would certainly love to return at some stage. Some tips! If you might be troubled by a little traffic noise, simply ask ahead for a room away from the road. Half board is decent value, but pace yourself; it's easy to overeat! There's some construction work quite close to the hotel. We (and I think everyone else) were untroubled by it, but again, if you feel this could be an issue for you, discuss it when booking your room. Use the yellow buses at least once - quite an experience!

The Sandpiper - first visit, it won’t be our last!

31 Mar 2025
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Barbados and The Sandpiper, staying for 1 week. Arrival was seamless, shown directly to our room with a brief tour and overview of the hotel and facilities. The staff are incredible, friendly, happy and always willing to help. Breakfast - what a great start to the day. Plenty of choice ranging from cold/hot selection and/or the choice of a la carte to your table. Very good lunch menu with shaded seating and views out over the Caribbean. We only ate in the hotel on one evening, however, the menu was good and the food, service and wine were excellent. We also ate one evening at the Coral Reef, their Thursday evening BBQ. Very good choice of food and the meat/fish cooked fresh for you. The Sandpiper has a BBQ too on a Sunday evening. I would highly recommend you try either one (if not both!). Our room was very comfortable, there is a little noise from the outside road starting relatively early in the morning (from around 6am), however, not enough to disturb you. The beach is excellent as are both swimming pools with plenty of sun loungers available. Very good choice of water-sports. The hotel has a great location, it’s a pleasant 5 minute walk from Holetown where you will find the shopping centre, supermarket and a good selection of restaurants. It’s also very easy to get to the likes of Speightstown and Bridgetown. Would highly recommend a stay.
