Firstly, I really wanted to love this hotel… however it’s very average. We have previously visited Soco St.Lucia and had a fab holiday. Positives - Christian and the other young chap behind the bar were always happy, chatty and super friendly, as was Michelle. The food, over all was good, well presented and tasty (although service on 2 days was very slow, 1.5hrs for breakfast)! Room for improvement - as others have stated some of the rooms, pool area etc are tired. Several items in our room were in need of a serious reverb. The cheap rattan furniture in the restaurant and around the pool are super uncomfortable to sit on and are very tatty, many being held together with black tape, really not 4* standard. Cleaning was regularly taking place around the tables at breakfast, I fully understand this needs to happen, however having worked in hotels in the UK, we do this outside of meal times. One morning at breakfast a drain was being rodded next to our table, seriously??!!! This could have been shielded from people eating. Staff - our welcome was lack lustre, no interest in us at all, having a conversation with another member of staff whilst we tried to ask general questions about the hotel, very poor!! We also found most of the staff to be fairly miserable (maybe this is as a result of this not being a very nice place to work??). Shequila was pretty much the only person to regularly chat with us at meal times, she was lovely. The pregnant lady on reception can be very sharp and rude. The older chap in the restaurant also has no time for chat, although we did notice that the service improved when he was around. Pool area - this is generally nice, however 50% of this area is taken up by tables/chairs which we never saw used and yet there were regularly no sun loungers, this needs addressing. Drinks are served in tiny plastic cups, I understand the need for plastic, but a child sized cup wasn’t ideal and feels cheap. There is a strict beach towel rule, which we have never seen before. You have to swap your towels at reception each day, if you can find a member of staff! Don’t really understand why this is so strict or at least have the towel swap by the pool. Beach - the small beach area could be lovely, however the hotel take no responsibility for this, there are broken plastic loungers at the back of the beach, there’s one parasol which cannot be moved and the beach needed to be raked of seaweed. Small touches would have made a big difference. Overall this is a 3* hotel on a good day. The location is fab, the food is good and the staff are miserable. Small changes would make a difference, fridges in the room but nothing in them?? We have always had a stocked fridge in hotels, just water and some soft drinks, you get nothing here. Also, most reports have snacks, just crisps and a small biscuit in the room, not here!! There are cheap, small plastic bottles in the bathroom with shampoo etc, this needs to be full-size bottles on the wall, please move away from the huge quantity of small plastic bottles. If you want no frills this place is nice, but not “boutique” by a long stretch.
