Enjoyed it

31 May 2025
Hi ,the wife and I have just returned from the Tigotan. We were given our room n it was literally in a basement! Felt like a cellar . It didn’t feel safe at all n very dismal. We went back to reception and they offered us another room higher up and externally . But at an extra cost ! Rip off ! I mentioned a pool view and they said that’s even more money ! Rip off ! . We finally got settled in and tbh we did enjoy our stay there . The rooms are tired but regularly cleaned. The corridors need a spruce up . We really enjoyed our evening meals altho breakfast was a bit iffy . Total farce with waiting so long for omelettes . Also need to change sausage supplier ! But edible with brown sauce. Mind you , you could eat a car tyre if smothered in enough brown sauce ! The animation team were really friendly and good at there jobs . Sun beds weren’t much of an issue . The lifeguard is a bit of a jobs worth . We put our towels down then went for breaky outside. N after 20 mins he was throwing letters on to the sun beds like he was dealing cards ! What a waste of paper ! Would we go back ? Think we would but would look at other hotels in the area first .

A nice first stay but very expensive for what it is

31 May 2025
We are just back from a 5 night stay here and it was our first time in this hotel. Overall, it was a nice experience, we were on floor 5 room 567 which faced onto the opposite hotel and had a partial sea view, it also had the sun all day from 10am - sunset which was great (although too small of a balcony to sunbathe on). Nice big room with 2 sinks, large wardrobe and A/C worked ok. Shout out to receptionist Giulia who I had contacted through email the day before to reserve a higher floor room, she was extremely helpful online! Really appreciated her help. However, there were some minor things that have made us question whether we would stay here again. We arrived late at around 10/11pm at night, and went onto the balcony to see our view. We did not realise and no one had informed us that you cannot open the balcony door from the outside, so within 10 minutes of entering the room we were locked outside! There is no handle on the balcony door from the outside, so you need to keep it open? Which makes this weird, is that the A/C needs the balcony doors to be closed to work, so it meant if we sat on the balcony, we had to keep the door open and therefore the A/C was off the entire time, making the room warm and humid. It didn’t make sense to us why there is no handle on the outside and we had never come across this. Luckily one of us had our phones with us on the balcony, so we had to ring the hotel to let us back into our room. Afterwards we saw a small sticker behind the curtain on the door to say the door doesn’t open from the outside, but it was too dark to see and no one had informed us of that. Our Smart TV also didn’t work and had no internet connection. I know we didn’t come on holidays to watch TV, but we wanted the option of Netflix and it was advertised as being a “smart Tv”. I had to contact reception twice as the first time I rang it was too late in the evening for maintenance, but he came the following day and it was resolved in under 10 minutes which was great. However, he explained to us that the smart TVs need to be activated by him in order to work, which makes no sense, as that would mean everyone has to contact maintenance if they want their TV connected to WiFi? Why not just connect them all so everyone has the option without having to ring maintenance? Strange again. The hotel is very expensive despite paying a large amount per night. Extra charges for sunbeds on the roof (which you need to “book” the day before to get a good one, which we didn’t know as first time visitors.) We came on holidays to relax and not have to organise every detail to the day, so this didn’t suit us. Also charges for hotel towels which were refundable but still didn’t expect that as the price per night is already much higher than other similar hotels around. Overall, a nice first stay in a good location however I’m not sure if we would stay again as I don’t think the price is worth it in my opinion. But no major complaints!

Is Tigotan losing its way?

31 May 2025
This year was either my 4th or 5th time choosing to stay in Tigotan. Up to now, I've had pretty good stays here and very little to complain about bar the quality and variety of the evening food. Here's my 2025 review: Tigotan was renovated in 2016. The hotel itself is very clean and bright, beautifully designed and laid out, cleaned daily from 8am to mid afternoon (you'll hear the cleaners). The higher floor rooms are large enough (double size) with double sliding door storage wardrobes, a large shower and his and her basins with shampoo, conditioner and light toiletries. The rooms come with safe, hairdryer, kettle (no tea, coffee or sugar), fridge, air con and balconies that vary in size depending on location as well as a large TV (42 inches or larger) with both English and non English channels. English speaking are channels 40-60 BBC, itv, ch4. Some of the rooms could use a freshen up. The ground floor rooms are larger, larger balcony or patio areas and are accessible for those with disabilities. Assuming you don't leave a do not disturb sign out, the staff will clean your room (floors, balcony, rubbish, shower, towels) every day, early! The corridors can be dark. Some people complain about it. Every single door has 1-2 spotlights over them. Personally, I like it. I've never had any issues with anyone being loud. I've only once seen one cockroach at 3am in the corridor. Pick a high room if they're a concern. There are plenty of sunbeds and you only see 3-4 people looking for beds late in the day. You can walk out at 11.30 and get poolside if you wait for a bed to free up. Don't expect to get one at 3pm though as easy. The pool is stunning and so too are both the Jacuzzis. Bar pool with food. Download a QR Scanner app on your phone and you can order from the bar to your lounger, a nice addition. Our camera didn't work scanning the QR code everywhere not just here so you may need a QR scanner app. The food is overpriced for what it is. €9-9.50 for a tomato and ham Baguette is outrageous when Yolo are selling similar next door for €5-6 and you can go to the hyper Dino across the road and buy same cheaper. This is poor considering what you pay per night for a room. If you want convenience, book a rooftop lounger or bed. It costs.. However.. Your money goes towards drinks or food. Some people are complaining if you don't drink alcohol etc etc the bundles include soft drinks, cocktails or mocktails but you need to choose one or the other. It is a good deal and it's better than it has been in previous years. Another positive is you have that bed for the day, you have the bar and servers there and the drinks from the rooftop are way way better than the poolside. It's ideal if you prefer quieter or a more private relax. Try a long island iced tea from the roof and any bar downstairs and you'll see what I mean about the difference in quality. You should note that we didn't drink 6 cocktails, we drank 3. When we asked the server if we had time constraints or could come back that evening to use up the drinks we were told we could. When we came back at 8 pm for the dj we were given two drinks and refused the last one because it was too late.. Despite what we were told earlier on. So you have up until either 6 or 8pm to drink what you already paid for!? Pool entertainment twice or three times daily with aqua aerobics, water volleyball, water handball, gladiators, foam Parties and numerous shows early and late in the evening they had either music bingo, live singers or a show. The entertainment was improved this year in teams of frequency. The quality was hit and miss. The poolside was great, the evening wasn't as good. You'd want to be heading out afterwards and not relying on their entertainment to be your nightly entertainment. There is such a wide gap In demography staying here so they try please everyone you need to bear that in mind. Breakfast was great. More so this year. Poached, scrambled and fried eggs, sausages (exceptionally low quality for what we're used to in UK and Ireland), bacon, black pudding!!!, baked beans and churros. Loads of breads and pastries, cava, yogurts, berries and fruits as well as small deserts. I loved breakfast. My only issue here was the tea bags. Lipton brand, not for me. There was No tea in the bedroom and poor quality tea at breakfast. Dinner was a different story. Something changed this year. While they had the meat grill for chicken, beef and veal certain areas let it down hugely. Dare I say this was probably the worst buffer dinner I've had and my partner agreed. It's great to see management coming and asking how everything was going, however, this should be done as we leave not as we sit down. They had Asian section with beautiful fried rice, no curry sauce which is bizarre to me, a' traditional' chicken curry made with drumsticks instead of diced chicken and a watery sauce, vegetable spring rolls and chips. The rice was nice but no sauce. A flavorless pork paella. Honestly, flavorless! Then there was spaghetti bolognese with no mince meat? Just pasta and sauce? Whoever is in charge of the dinner has no idea about their guests and they genuinely need to step it up. I'd never go half board here again, I feel like I wasted money. It wasn't cheap to stay here and we had to eat out most nights despite paying for half board. The dinner has me now considering whether I want to return here at all. The idea of having everything on site and not leaving is great. I'll happily stay inside and spend money but the hotel food has decreased in quality. It Defeats the purpose if I need to eat out every night. I'd pay for better quality especially with Up, volcano and med palace all close by and with better rates. You also need to pay for water with your dinner, no soft drinks etc. There are so many things I believe need to be improved to get their reputation back and to show the customer value for money. Tigotan is a beautiful hotel. Gorgeous rooftop bar and amenities with the gym, games downstairs, wellness center etc. Staff are great and it's adults only. Some people complained about cockroaches, I seen one in my whole stay as I left at 03.30am otherwise the hotel is clean! Be smart and pick a high floor, ideally on left or center to get evening sun and pool view is worth the upgrade rather than overlooking a laneway. The gym I used and is basic but OK. It's better to have than not have. I ordered a cake and bottle of cava for a birthday and paid about €60 - 70 for them. The cava was nice and the red velvet cake was stunning! This is my 4th or 5th year here and I don't know if I even got the returning customer discount but I got cheap not nice cava. I'm genuinely considering a different hotel for my next trip later this year and next year. I looked out over the pool area at sunset and looked at how young this hotel is. It looks like a hotel for young people and has been historically. Nice rooftop bar, wellness centre, gym, cocktails, nice pools, infinity pools and Hot tubs yet the demographic is elderly and seems to be slipping toward an older crowd.. Probably because of the entertainment etc. I think the hotel is losing its identity and will lose revenue by doing so. That's my honest review. Competition is fierce with local upgrades and new hotels offering all inclusive for marginally more than tigotan half board. The value is not there anymore in my opinion. It excels in places and falls wayyyy short in others. I'll always have a soft spot for the hotel and despise the idea of changing on my next holiday but paying over €150 a night to not eat and only put my head on your pillow is madness, no?

Avoid, disappointing stay

31 May 2025
What started as a good stay ended up with us being extremely disappointed after staying here for a week after being recommended this hotel. It is definitely not the cheapest, and doesn't live up to the price point. The rooms are small, a little rough (scuff marks, painted poorly) and there's no tea/coffee in the room (very unusual for a 4 star hotel). We had to swap rooms half way through our stay during to being woken up by cockroaches in the room at 4am and got another room, with the staff being extremely aloof regarding this. We had actually attempted to remove the first cockroach (absolutely huge) and then we seen more surfacing and it wasn't worth trying to remove more because I would hazard a guess it would need to be fumigated (no sign this was done either). We also had a small issue with the air con also and when we asked at reception, the receptionist was rude and sneery about it and treated us like we were stupid (we're from Ireland lol we don't know how air con really works). We brought up the cockroach issue with a manager and several members of staff who pretty much waved it off as 'everything is fine now'. We decided we weren't happy with this response at all and contacted the holiday vendors who contacted the hotel who then said they had zero record of us reporting the issue... So we swapped rooms at 4am one morning for no reason? Honestly left us with a very bad impression of the whole experience, I won't even bother to list out anything positive because basically being called liars over an issue they were well aware of and should have been documented fully is pretty disgusting and shocking. Avoid at all costs, definitely not worth the money or effort. Customer service and customer care is at an all time low here. We also found a cockroach in our new room on checkout day, and looking at other reviews it seems to be a known issue that they don't care to resolve.
