Ubud Heaven Penestanan

I arrived at this villa having booked a 1-bedroom for two people and was initially checked into a 2-bedroom villa, which I assumed was a complimentary upgrade. Unfortunately, when I later asked to use the second room, the situation escalated in a very unpleasant way. The staff became aggressive and dismissive, insisting on additional payment and speaking to me in a disrespectful manner. I was questioned on whether I could “read” my booking and was sent a screenshot of my confirmation, which felt condescending and unnecessary. This interaction was shocking and completely out of line with the warmth and respect I have consistently experienced throughout Bali. While the staff attitude was the main issue, the property itself also had problems, including insects in the villa and extremely hard, uncomfortable beds. Balinese hospitality is usually exceptional, which made this experience even more disappointing. Due to the staff’s behavior and overall experience, I would not recommend staying at this property.

This rating is about the restaurant. Food is fine; we were just surprised by the service charge at the end. We mentioned to each other that the staff would still need some practice: - bringing drinks after each other while it were only 4 to carry. - food coming not at the same time (one almost finished his dish, other one receives hers). And right here they charge 10% service instead of the normal 5% or 6%.

Great service, delicious breakfast and beautiful cottage with private swimmingpool. Ubud’s restaurants and shops are very near and there is a lit to do near Ubud. Monkey Forest and rice terraces we would recommend.

Got a nasty reaction on my legs from the bed, and it was not the climate as the staff said. I see that a other person got the same so he has not “lost his mind” as the manager said. It was moldy and the sheets had old blood stains even after they changed the sheets. They would not refund us after this. The Wi-Fi was also not working at all, even in the lobby it as difficult. I understand that the Wi-Fi is not always good but it didn’t work at all. We had to switch hotel after one night because of the horrible reaction I got. We didn’t meet any understanding at all.

We stayed in August 2022 for 3 nights, wish we had stayed longer. The villas are completely private with bushes and your own entry gate seperating you from the neighbours. The traditional villas are clean and safe, bed is comfortable and amenities are good. The private pool was much larger than it looks (approx 2m wide x 6m long). If you are not using their transfer service make sure you call ahead to get directions for your driver. There are 2 ways to get there from the main road, one way has MANY steps, with the other way the villas have a golf cart they can drop you to the main road with (free) which is much easier to negotiate with luggage. The restaurant is currently being updated. They are using WhatsApp for food orders and delivering to villas while it is under construction. Food is well priced, breakfast was great every day for only 75000IDR each including coffee, juice, fruit and your dish. We had planned to eat in-house a few times for lunch or dinner but were told the Chef was not working / meals were not currently available so went elsewhere. Ubud is beautiful but be prepared to walk up and down the hills, there is a great BBQ place within walking distance called Cupit BBQ which has great BBQ at a great price! There is also a nice cafe within walking distance called Kopitoko Ubud, they have tastey sandwiches and fabulous Aussie type coffee!! All in all a great relaxing stay, the restaurant being closed wasn't an issue and the staff were always friendly and helpful.
