Our stay at Villa Mahapala was a disappointment, especially given the premium price point. We expected a comfortable, well-maintained, and relaxing experience, but instead, we encountered poor service, back breaking mattresses, a dirty pool and a mosquito problem. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻/𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮: For the high price, we expected a luxurious and comfortable villa, but instead, we experienced poor upkeep and frustrating design flaws: Very saggy, worn-out mattress that left us with back pain. Doors and windows that didn’t fully shut, making it impossible to keep mosquitoes and ants outside, while also letting the chemicals from fumigations inside. Wooden blinds that were completely impractical. They didn’t block light at night and didn’t let in enough light during the day. Closet door that wouldn’t close properly, so the closet light stayed on - we had to stuff a pillow against it. Narrow, noisy bathroom door that made loud noises every time it opened or closed. So if one person needed to use the bathroom at night, the other person was definitely waking up. Front door difficult to use because the wooden blinds were in the way, making getting in and out of the villa an unnecessary hassle. No bath mat provided, meaning we had to step out of the shower onto slippery tiles, which is a serious safety hazard. The private pool was dirty and uninviting. 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The hotel clearly has a serious mosquito problem, but instead of addressing the root cause, they rely on heavy fumigation and chemicals. When we arrived at 5 PM (exhausted and unwell with gastro) we were told to stay outside of the villa for the next hour because the entire property was being fumigated in an attempt to control mosquitoes. We left the property and returned after three hours. Once inside, our villa smelled of chemicals, which was particularly unpleasant as we were already feeling unwell. The next day, a staff member came by to offer more mosquito spraying and a mosquito coil for outside - proof that fumigation alone wasn’t enough to solve the issue. We declined further spraying due to the lingering chemical smell, and got multiple mosquito bites during our stay. Instead of properly addressing this, the hotel relies on excessive chemicals. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: Breakfast, available in the villa or restaurant, was acceptable in quality, quantity and variety - but arrived late on both days. Due to our illness, we ordered boiled potatoes. It took 1.5 hours to arrive, and when it did, the potatoes were still undercooked. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁: 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 Villa Mahapala markets itself as a luxury retreat, but in reality, it fails to deliver on basic comfort, cleanliness, and service. This was by far the worst value-for-money stay we’ve had in Bali. We would not return and do not recommend this property.
