Our recent stay at Villa Sonia Ubud was extremely disappointing. This was our third time staying at this hotel. We had always trusted the place, recommended it to friends, and this year we even brought some of them with us. Unfortunately, during this stay 400 € disappeared from our room. The money was kept in a zipped pocket of a backpack in our room. In the morning we checked and everything was there. We left the hotel around 8:30 AM. When we returned around lunchtime, the room had already been cleaned. Later in the afternoon we went out again, and when we came back in the evening the mosquito repellent had been placed in the room. This means that hotel staff entered the room twice during that day. The next day around noon we checked the backpack again and discovered that two €200 banknotes were missing. Only my husband and I had the key to the room and it was always locked when we were not inside. The only other access during the day was by hotel staff. We informed the management immediately. We were told an internal check was done, but no explanation was provided and no one was held responsible. Even more concerning was the fact that the security camera covering that area was not working. Because of the situation, we had no choice but to file a report with the local police. What disappointed us the most was not only the incident itself but the lack of a serious attempt to resolve the situation. We are sharing this experience so future guests can be aware and take extra precautions with their valuables.
