It may look imposing and grand at the entrance area, but past that, the dated vibes exhibit everywhere. Perhaps the hotel used to have its glorious early days, but today it desperately needs a complete makeover. However, it charges pretty low, so I guess it’s must have been a difficult consideration for the C-suite people - continue to charge low and attract a certain kind of clientele, or upgrade comprehensively to attract an additional kind of clientele while sacrificing the mass market? The potential for redevelopment is massive - the land is huge - there’s even a large wasted green yard (or garden, or whatever - nobody is in sight) which my balcony overlooks. Rooms are suitably large, but very common looking. It’s like a rental room than a hotel room. The toilet bowl is noisy (yes it slams down with a deafening sound), the kettle cover is spoilt, the towels are deteriorating (and I think not fully dry), there is no hand towel, the shower gel comes in a tiny bottle, there is no charging port or socket at the bedside, the QR code for menu doesn’t work, the slippers are of poor quality, etc etc I can literally go on and on. I visited the gym - signage is poor so I’ll advise you that it’s hidden inside the spa (how strange), in the basement, with no TV, and a couple of machines. The gym felt like an afterthought. I read a book at their poolside. Towels were not refreshed regularly but I was lucky to snitch the last one. I also ordered a nice drink using their QR code. The pool looked pleasant. I had dinner at the splash bar - although it was advertised a number of eateries, only two were operating at the moment?! It was ok. I had breakfast at the rasa restaurant. Although there were many items, it was one of the few breakfast buffets which I truly struggled to find nice things to eat. Waffles were hard (yucks). Both Asian and western spreads were below average - I resorted to just eating bread, something I very infrequently do in Asian breakfast buffets. After taking the chilled guava juice, then I discovered there were fresh water melon juice and fresh honeydew juice in a separate counter?! Coffee wasn’t aromatic, even though it wasn’t americano. Is there anything good then? Yes of course: (1). WiFi is strong throughout the property and doesn’t need a password. (2). The pool looked pleasant to swim in, and there were numerous sitting areas (3). Room air con is strong - the thermostat is at the bedside?!
