Terrible Bed Bug Infestation & Appalling Response Stay Dates: May 27–31, 2025 • Room 1002B I rarely write negative reviews, but my stay at Westgate Palace Resort was a disaster from waking up with bites to being gaslit by their risk-management team. Woke Up Covered in Bites • May 28: I awoke with angry, itchy welts on my face, ear, and shoulders—far too many for anything but bed bugs. • May 29: More angry bites on my hands, feet and shoulders. • May 30: The bites multiplied and swelled so badly that I had to cut my Universal Studios day short, dash back to the hotel to grab my passport and insurance and ask the front desk to point me to the nearest hospital. They knew that I was heading to the hospital due to a unknown reaction on my body. Emergency Medical Treatment • At the ER, doctors noted a severe allergic reaction “rash or skin eruption” took photos of my swelling but couldn’t pinpoint the cause at that time. I have no known allergies, so this was alarming. They prescribed a strong antihistamine and topical treatments to reduce the swelling. He did say that Orlando had a surge in bed bugs bites recently. • June 2 (Toronto Dermatologist): After returning home, my dermatologist confirmed these were classic bed-bug bites - three in a row, unmistakable. Hotel’s “Investigation” & Gaslighting • I gave Westgate every chance to make this right, submitting photos of my bite marks and my medical documentation. • June 12: A front-desk agent blandly told me Room 1002B had tested positive for bed bugs and that I would be contacted the next day. • That same day, I spoke with Waldemar Cantero in Risk Management. From the start, he dismissed my claim as “hearsay” because I didn’t have a live bug photo. He refused all accountability, showed zero empathy, and even more shockingly, they’d already “turned it over” to new guests. Unforgivable Negligence • Westgate knowingly exposed other unsuspecting guests and possibly my travel companions to bed bugs. • Their so-called “remediation” boiled down to ticking a box on a pest-control log, not genuine care or follow-through. Bottom Line: Westgate Palace Resort turned what should have been a fun family getaway into a medical crisis and then gaslighted me when I sought compensation. If you value your health, your skin, and basic human decency, steer clear of this place. Avoid at all costs. I was sent an email June 12th - and the PDF was Denial - bed bugs from their Westgate investigation.
